Podcast Series
2015-2021
Poppa Squash is a shape-shifting, semi-improvised podcast that wanders between parody, philosophy, and sound collage. It is an exploration of the format of a radio show and podcast as a widely distributed performance space. Each episode unfolds as a speculative broadcast from an alternate intergalactic version of America. It is a playful zone where folklore, pop culture, and absurdity blend into surreal commentary on meaning is constructed through media, how attention circulates, and how play becomes a tool for critical reflection.
Created by Britt Moseley and Sean Petell, the series began with the format of a radio program on WPIR Pratt Radio. Like most radio shows, it featured music in the form of “Transmissions from the planet” secretly made with live in-studio sessions on home-made synthesizers. Building on that model, the 100+ episodes range from mock product launches and self-help sermons to sitcom parodies and interviews with imaginary experts. The result is a playful media ecology that is handmade and hyper-mediated. Poppa Squash can be streamed on any podcast platform.
