Out West was a solo exhibition of ceramic sculpture, painting, and dioramas at Three Four Three Four Gallery in Brooklyn, NY. The exhibition reimagined objects and images from the urban landscape into mythic figures, where the artifacts of contemporary life takes on the aura of archeology.
The ceramic objects are renderings of contemporary urban creatures as ancient Etruscan-inspired zoomorphic bottles, transforming objects and symbols of the present into mythic forms. These hybrid forms merge antiquity and the everyday, proposing a speculative lineage where present-day materials become the relics of future civilizations.
The dioramas extend this inquiry, depicting landscapes of plastic, worlds built from digital clock numbers, and infinite tunnels of hair. On the gallery windowsill, the Slab Series rises like miniature mountains, superimposed upon the industrial Jersey shoreline.
Across the exhibition, Out West is an inquiry into how craft, ecology, and technology fold into one another to form the strata of collective imagination. The work drifts between the myth of the American West and the material realities of post-industrial life. In the end, it is a longing to return to a time “without purpose and before I knew,” a moment when objects and landscapes still held the potential to become worlds.
