The associative paintings are essentially hand rendered collages: at the basest level I am seeking to flatten bits of paper and media onto a large sheet of paper. The majority were made at the onset of the pandemic, and I have continued the practice for the past two years. They illustrate a state of free flowing anxiety, and as a whole, create meaning from random and non-sensical images, mirroring the change brought on by the pandemic. The source material is paper documents and photographs from my life, mixed with cartoon and media imagery from old vintage magazines like Heavy Metal and High Times I happened to have: eras before I was born, imagery and aesthetics that existed in a seemingly simpler time.
